Original equipment manufacturer is one of those phrases that gets diluted by use. In the Haas-skimmer relationship, it is specific:
- Zebra designs and builds the unit at our shop in the United States.
- Haas sells it through their parts catalog as the factory oil skimmer.
- The mounting, motor, and wiper geometry are the same skimmer Zebra has been refining for decades.
In other words, the same part comes off the same line whether you order it through Haas or directly from us. The branding on the housing and the part number you cite when you call for service are the only things that change.
Why this matters when you are pricing a skimmer for your Haas
There are three practical reasons to care, and one strategic reason.
1. Replacement parts fit on day one
When a wiper wears, a belt stretches, or a motor needs swapping, the parts you need are the parts we stock. You do not have to chase down the OEM through a distributor and wait for the catalog to be cross-referenced. 2. Longevity is a manufacturer call, not a dealer call
The Haas service manual covers installation. It does not cover what happens at year five, year ten, year fifteen. That is on the manufacturer. What it does not mean
A few things are worth being honest about, because the OEM relationship is not a magic wand.
- It does not mean every Zebra skimmer is the same as the Haas factory unit. How to know which Zebra unit fits your machine
A short decision tree. Verify dimensions against your tank before ordering — coolant tank clearance is the most common install problem, and it is usually solvable but worth catching early.
- You have a Haas Mini Mill (or a Super Mini Mill). A compact disk or tube skimmer is typically the right answer. Tank depth is shallow and overhead clearance is tight.
- You have a VF series mill (VF-2 through VF-5). The Zebra Style Haas Coolant Oil Skimmer is purpose-fit for the external coolant tank. This is the unit Haas ships under their part number.
- You have an ST series lathe. The same family fits, with model selection based on whether the tank is a 55-gallon or 95-gallon configuration.
